A Journey from Pine Ridge

Our story began in 1973, nestled on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, near the historically significant site of Wounded Knee. As proud, enrolled members of the Sioux Nation, our early lives were deeply interwoven with the vibrant tapestry of our culture. This period saw us not only embracing our heritage but also actively engaging with the community, including pursuing higher education at Oglala College and contributing to the well-being of young people at the boys' dormitory. It was during this time that the profound impact of events like the Wounded Knee occupation underscored the unique challenges and resilient spirit of our people.

Nurturing the Next Generation

As Native individuals ourselves, we carry a profound and personal commitment to the future of our youth. We believe in the transformative power of education and the critical role it plays in shaping the lives of Native children. We understand that our young people, often referred to as The First Americans, possess immense talent and potential.

Bridging Dreams with Opportunity

Having lived within the reservation ourselves, we have an intimate understanding of its culture, its strengths, and its needs. We've witnessed firsthand the incredible talent that flourishes within our communities. However, we also recognize the significant hurdle of limited funding for continued education. For many bright young minds, the dream of a fulfilling future remains just that—a dream, often out of reach due to financial constraints.

At Lakota 444, our vision is to transform these aspirations into reality. We are dedicated to providing avenues for these talented youth to pursue technical education, such as computer science, medical training, and lab technology. These fields offer not just careers, but pathways to self-sufficiency, innovation, and community empowerment.
